DETAILED ITINERARY OF COLOMBIA 🇨🇴 PHOTO TOUR  13 DAYS 

"BEST SEASON TO VISIT NOV 15TH TO JUNE 30TH."

In the information below you will find all the details day by day about you visit to COLOMBIA for BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR. 

DAY 1

• Arrival to BOGOTA  (EL DORADO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT)
• In this day everything depends on your arrival time. Because we have two options. 
• If you arrive early in the morning, we can take the flight to CALI CITY the same day. Cali is the city where we will start our COLOMBIA Photo Tour. 
• The second option is if you arrive to Bogota Airport in the afternoon, we have to stay overnight in Bogota to arrange the next day the flight to CALI. 
• WE WILL TAKE DECISION IN THIS DAY AFTER YOU GET YOUR FLIGHT TICKETS. 

DAY 2

• Early departure to LA FLORIDA reserve. (30 min drive). This is one of the best reserves to photograph some ENDEMICS species of Colombia and fore sure some of the target birds to photograph. Some of the species in this reserve are: saffron crowned tanager, green honeycreeper, scarlet rumped tanager, little tinamou and of course the specialties of the place MULTICOLORED TANAGER, CHESTNUT WOOD-QUAIL AND SCALED ANTPITTA.  
• In this reserve we will stay as long as we want and after to enjoy of the lunch. We will continue Shooting some hummingbirds. In this reserve we will stay must of the day because we have some other birds to photograph like: some woodpeckers and other types of tanagers also. 
• After to visit this reserve. We will drive to the lodge SAN FELIPE LODGE. The best birding lodge in CALI area. IN THIS LODGE WE WILL STAY THE NEXT 3 DAYS. 

DAY 3

• This day is an extra day in CALI that I always add it because depending de season or the year of visiting we can have the chance to photograph an AMAZING EAGLE THAT NEST IN SMALL TOWN NEAR BY CALI.  
• The target bird is ORNATE HAWK EAGLE. That is considered in danger due to the loss of the habitat. If we are lucky will be a unique experience to photograph this beautiful bird.
• If is not the right season we can look for other options of photography nearby the area.
• Hotel SAN FELIPE LODGE

DAY 4

• We will start in the feeders and hide of the lodge. Most of the morning we will star here doing some photo session of multi flash with hummingbirds and in the banana feeders.  
• After to spend the morning in this reserve we will drive to our next reserve to get the second session to photograph the beautiful MULTICOLORED TANAGER AND SAFFRON CROWNED TANAGER.  We will stay in this reserve at least 4 hours getting the best pictures of this beautiful bird.   AND IN THE AFTERNOON, we will drive to our nest destination in LA UNION.
• HOTEL LOS VINEDOS

DAY 5

• This day we will start visiting a Local grapes farm located near by the hotel. In this farm we will look for one of the target birds in this trip and one of the main reasons to come to here. Here we have the chance to photograph RUBY-TOPAZ HUMMINGBIRD. 
• Depending how lucky we are and how active is this beautiful hummingbird we will stay here until lunch and after that we will continue with our journey to the next destination in Cajamarca Ville. Were we will stay for the nest 2 days. 
• Hotel CANTOS DEL RIO

DAY 6

• Early departure to Anaime community, here we will meet DIEGO who will take us to the best place to photograph other of the target birds of our Photo tour. We will get great chances to photograph the endanger YELLOW EARED PARROT. This beautiful parrot is losing the habitat due to the agriculture and it nest in one specific type of palm that takes long time to grow. 
• After to spend the morning in this spot. We will drive to a beautiful hummingbird garden where we will photograph some new species. The most remarkable and the endemic species are: INDICO CAPPED HUMMINGBIRD, TOLIMA BLOSSOMCROWN, COLOMBIAN CHACHALACA, TOLIMA DOVE AND SOME OTHER SPECIES OF TANAGER AND HUMMINBIRDS.
• In the afternoon we will decide if we go back to photograph the YELLOW EARED PARROT or if we come back the next day.
• HOTEL CANTOS DEL RIO

DAY 7

• This day we will have de chance to visit EL RETORNO DE LOS COLIBRIES RESERVE for hummingbird photo session. This will be our last chance to get a great picture of the endemic species of this area. 
• In the afternoon after to enjoy of the lunch we will drive to our next destination and next lodge. We have 3 hours drive to Manizales City. 
• In this area we will stay the next 4 days.  The area around Manizales is considered like one of the best areas for bird Photography. There are some good reserves to visit and get a great shoot of other kind of birds.
• HOTEL ESTELAR

DAY 8

• In this day we will departure very early in the morning (5:30 am) to be on time in the meeting point where we will arrange the 4x4 JEEPS to drive to visit one of the highlight places of photography in Colombia. 
• Glamping is an amazing place where we will stay all day long photographing a lot of different species of birds like: BLACK BILLED MOUNTAIN TOUCAN, EMERALD TOUCANET, OCELLATED TAPACULO, HOODED MOUNTAIN TANAGER, LACRIMOSE MOUNTAIN TANAGER, SLATY BRUSHFINCH, CHESTNUT NAPE ANTPITTA and other birds more. 
• Late in the afternoon we will arrange the 4x4 jeeps again to come back to de hotel in the Manizales City.
• HOTEL ESTELAR

DAY 9

• This is one of the days that we will be at high elevation (11000 ft.). We will visit NEVADO DE EL RUIZ NATIONAL PARK 
• This national park is one of the few places where is possible to find one of the MEGA HUMMINGBIRDS of the World. The BUFFY HELMETCREST. THIS IS OTHER OF THE TARGET BIRDS TO PHOTOGRAPH IN COLOMBIA and it is other endemic species of Colombia.
• After to spend all that morning in this place, we will visit other place near by the area. TERMALES DEL RUIZ is a location where we will have lunch and we will spend the afternoon looking for some hummingbirds of a high altitude like: SHINING SUNBEAM, GREAT SAPPHIREWING, GOLDEN BREATED PUFFLEGS, BLUE MANTLED THORNBILL, RAINBOW BEARDED THORNBILL AND SOME MORE. 
• Late afternoon we will drive back to the HOTEL ESTELAR in Manizales.

DAY 10

• Early departure to a private reserve HACIENDA EL BOSQUE, this is other of the highlight places of bird photography. 
• In this reserve we will stay most of the day getting the best photos of a nice species of birds like: GRAY BREASTED MOUNTAIN TOUCAN, ANDEAN GUAN, CRESCENT FACED ANTPITTA, EQUATORIAL ANTPITTA, GRAY BROUDED BRUSHFINCH, BARRED FRUITEATER, ETC. 
• This place is a good location for hummingbird photography, species like, shining sunbeam, buff winged starfrontlet, sword-billed hummingbird and some more. 
• In the afternoon we will drive back to the HOTEL ESTELAR

Day 11

• Starting in the morning driving to our next location TINAMU BIRDING LODGE (1 hour drive), the place where we will stay the las 2 days of our trip. 
• Depending de arrival time to the lodge we will start shooting in the banana feeders and the hummingbird feeders too. 
• Al day photography in the lodge.
• Hotel TIMANU BIRDING LODGE

Day 12

• Full day of photography at TIMANU BIRDING LODGE. Visiting the GOLDEN COLLARED MANAKIN LEK, SCRUB TAGANER, GUIRA TANAGER, GREEN HERMIT, BLACK CHESTED JAY. 
• During the rest of the day, we will look for other different set ups for hummingbird pictures. 
• Last day in TUNAMU BIRDING LODGE.

DAY 13

• This day is mostly like a relaxing day, because we will take as a day of traveling to our final destination in the country.
